They’ve temporarily closed the wood shop and cancelled classes for the rest of the semester in my school following a serious injury as a result of the shop teacher not paying enough attention while he was operating one of the cutting tools.  I didn’t actually see it happen, but rumor has it that he was giving his standard speech on shop safety that he does at the beginning of each semester, in which he mimics some of the unsafe things that people do that can result in some very nasty accidents, or even worse.  It’s supposed to educate incoming students on what not to do while they are operating the power tools.  Well apparently his acting was a little too real and he ended up nearly cutting through his left arm as he demonstrated careless behavior on the band saw.  Students who were present at the time of the incident were horrified and a few even required a few sessions with the school counselor afterward.  The teacher had to undergo surgery for the injuries that he sustained and will apparently make a full recovery but the school has no plans of finding a replacement to conduct the class while he’s out recovering.
